The gites provide an ideal retreat at any time of the year. The hills and vineyards provide an ever-changing tapestry of colour and an environment for interesting wild life. Wild flowers, animals, birds and butterflies enjoy the benefits of the climate and provide much to discover and observe.

Deer, red squirrel, hares and wild boar roam the garrigue within yards of the village.

Lizards and geckoes bask on the sun baked walls in our garden.

The lagoons, within half an hour of the village, are host to resident and migrating birds, best seen from the end of August to late May. Flamingoes, avocets, black winged stilts, little ringed plover, cattle and little egret, sacred ibis are all seen there, as well as different herons and harriers.

The area lies on the main North/South European bird migration route and we have spotted the following either from or within half an hour's drive of the village:

  • White and black stork
  • Osprey
  • Honey buzzard - over150 seen in a 2 hour period Sept 07 from our garden
  • European bee eater
  • Roller
  • Golden oriole
  • Red and black kite
  • Griffon vultures
  • Montagu's harrier
  • Short toed eagle
  • Rufus bush robin
  • Orphean warbler
  • Wall creeper
